FAQ

Do your pickups come with hardware?

Yes. We include the screws and tubing you need for mounting. If anything’s missing, just let us know.

Are BTone pickups hum-canceling?

They’re true single coils, so they’ll hum like vintage pickups — especially in solo positions. Our middle pickups in matched sets are RWRP, so you’ll get some hum cancellation in positions 2 and 4 on a Strat-style guitar.

What magnets do you use?

We typically use Alnico II or Alnico V — it depends on the voicing we’re after. We go with what sounds right, not just what looks good in a spec sheet. If you’re after something specific, reach out. We’re happy to work with you — even if it’s something we haven’t tested in-house yet.

How do I set the pickup height?

Start around 1/8" (3.2mm) from the string to the pole when fretting the last fret. Adjust by ear from there — closer for more output, lower for a bit more clarity and openness.

What if my pickups sound thin or out of phase?

That usually means polarity or wiring isn’t matching up with your other pickups. Reversing the leads can help — or shoot us a message and we’ll walk you through it.

Do you repair or rewind pickups?

Yes. If you’ve got a dead coil, snapped wire, or a pickup that needs some life back. Email info (at) thebtone.com.

How fast do you ship?

We aim to ship in-stock pickups within 2–3 business days. Made-to-order sets or repairs might take a little longer — we’ll always keep you updated.

Do I need a left-handed pickup?

Only if you’re ordering a staggered-pole pickup for a left-handed guitar. For flat-pole designs, there’s no difference.

Can I return a pickup?

Typically yes, you can. See our Return & Refund Policy for full details.

Do I need to worry about ohm readings or resistance?

No. DC resistance gives you a general sense of wind count but doesn’t directly reflect tone or output. Trust your ears, not just the numbers.

What if I want something custom?

Yes — we offer custom builds by request. Just reach out to start the conversation. We’ll go over what you’re looking for, discuss expectations, pricing, and timeline, and let you know if it’s something we can take on.

What is RWRP?

RWRP stands for Reverse Wound, Reverse Polarity. It’s used in the middle pickup of Strat sets to reduce hum when combined with the neck or bridge.

Can I just drop these pickups into any Strat?

They’re made to fit standard Strat-style guitars. If you’re unsure about spacing, cavity depth, or mounting, contact us before you order.

Does it matter which way I face the pickup when installing?

For flat-pole pickups, orientation doesn’t matter. For staggered-pole pickups, the taller poles should be on the bass side.
